Deaf Golf Ireland (DGI) is pleased to announce that the 2018 World Deaf Golf Championship will take place at Carton House, in Maynooth, Co Kildare, from July 24th to 27th 2018.

The bi-annual tournament, recognised and supported by R&A and sanctioned by the World Deaf Golf Federation (WDGF), will see the world’s top amateur Deaf golfers compete to win one of a number of individual and team competitions. Since the WDGF was established in 1995, the international governing body for the sport of golf among Deaf people worldwide has hosted the bi-annual event in 11 different countries, and Ireland is the 12th such event.

President of DGI Bernard O’Reilly, said: “Our members and the local organising committee are delighted to welcome all participants, non-golfers and supporters to Carton House Hotel and Golf Resort for the 12th World Deaf Golf Championships 2018. We hope that all of the competitors, supporters and visitors will enjoy a memorable golfing experience and have an opportunity to sample the local Irish culture.”

It is Ireland’s second time hosting the World Deaf Golf Championships and the event is expected to set a new record with over 100 golfers from 19 countries alongside 16 Irish golfers. DGI is also delighted to welcome 17-year-old Diksha Dagar, India’s No. 1 amateur golfer, and 26- year-old Ciaran Doyle from Lexilip, who are both making their debuts in this Championship. Dagar will also play at the forthcoming World Amateur Team Golf Championships in August.

The organisers are expecting visitors from all over the world, including India, Australia, Canada, Japan, Russia, USA and some of our European neighbours.

WDGF Vice President and Tyrone native Don Conway said: “Deaf golf is a growing sport worldwide and has expanded from a single competition of male golfers into three separate competitions for men, ladies and seniors, both as individuals and as teams”

With a winning Trophy prize and some of the greatest players in the game, the participants will have an enjoyable challenge ahead of them at one of Ireland’s finest golf clubs at Carton House in Maynooth.
